handsome Harry, Rhexia virginica

Handsome Harry gets around in the eastern US. But here in Michigan it is listed as a special concern species, and it is threatened in Iowa and Vermont. Why protect a plant in one state when it is common elsewhere? Because if the range is allowed to shrink, it may soon become threatened in other areas. Handsome Harry is buzz pollinated. See the blog for more information. It occurs in AL, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA(T), IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI(SC), MO, MS, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT(T), WI, WV, NS, and ON.
