Michigan lily, Lilium michiganense

What makes a flower beautiful? It's all in our minds. We look at a bit of matter, and our minds turn it into something other than a demonstration of physics and chemistry. The goal of the photographer is to capture that other. It's even trickier because each mind percieves things differently. But we all pretty much agree on lilies. With Michigan lilies, I see a plant whose buds droop, then explode in flames of orange, shooting out the parts that are most important to it's reason for being. Michigan lilies grow in fields and open woods in AL, AR, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MN, MO, MS, NE, NY(E), OH, OK, PA, SD, TN(T), WI, and ON. Ontonagon Co MI, 7/11/11
