woodland lettuce, Lactuca floridana

In my wildflower daze, time is marked AD, after digital. In year AD 1, I went out to see lizard's-tails. When I parked on the roadside, and looked out the window, I saw woodland lettuce. It's a state threatened species. About 20 yards after I got out, I found another threatened plant. At this point, I have found eleven listed plants on that property, and three more that are rare enough to have formerly been listed. In years AD, I was worried my botany would suffer as I focused on photography. The reverse has been true. I'm finding more exciting things than ever. This lettuce grows in woods in AL, AR, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MI(T), MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NJ, NY(E), OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, WI, WV, MB, and ON. Lenawee Co MI, 8/17/11.
