Feay's palafox, Palafoxia feayi

You would think that someone would come up with a better common name. After all, common names are not restricted by all the rules of technical ones. Something like pinwheels? This is as open as the flowers get. This is one species I hoped to find on that autumn trip to Florida. Boy did I get lucky! For the rest of the story, see the blog. The flower heads are about an inch across. They grow in dry, often sandy sites in FL. Polk Co FL, 10/21/15
