Ohio goldenrod, Solidago ohioensis

If it were up to me, goldenrod would be our national flower. Their magnificent late season displays are unparalleled. They grow in every state. They've even invaded Hawaii. I know they get blamed for hay fever. Fake news! So wrong! But the media always get it right. Its not goldenrod, its ragweed, which blooms at the same time. Goldenrod holds it's pollen on the plant, waiting for a pollinating bug. And boy do they attract bugs! Almost as many as a Trump aide talking to Russia. Ohio goldenrod grows in low open areas in IL, IN. MI, NY(T), OH, WI, and ON. Ives Fen Preserve, Lenawee Co MI, 8/28/15
