yellow water buttercup, Ranunculus flabellaris

I made it across yesterday's log. With this one, I really didn't think that riverbank would be so slippery. That was the day I discovered my pricey orthotics could survive a dunk. This buttercup grows in shallow water, sometimes forming large, beautifully dense colonies. The flowers are an inch or more across. It grows in every state except AK, AZ, CO, FL, GA, NM, SC, TX, and WV, and in AB, BC, MB, NB, ON, and QC. It is endangered in MD, of special concern in RI, and threatened in TN. Lenawee Co MI, 4/17/12
