buckbean, Menyanthes trifoliata
Buckbean called for another visit to a bog. This time only knee deep. This bitter plant has been used medicinally, and as flavor in schnapps. These flowers are about an inch across. It occurs in bogs and fens in Eurasia and in AK, AL, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, IA(T), ID, IL, IN, MA, MD(E), ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC(T), ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH(T), OR, PA, RI, SD, UT, VA, VY, WA, WI, WV, WY, in all Canadian Provinces and in GL and SPM.
