dove pincussion, Scabiosa columbaria

Is dove picussion wild? Somebody thought so in MA, NJ, NY, and OH. For a good summary of the question see (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wildflower). I and other collectors of specimens struggle with this question. You can't always know when something was deliberately planted. Or where to draw the line if it was, but persists after the site is no longer cultivated. Native species are questionable when planted in sites outside their range. I've submitted a few specimens when I had misgivings. I've done so to let the pros make the decision, and to preserve the information whichever way it goes. In some cases, my specimens have been initially ruled not wild, but changed years later to wild when more specimens from more sites come in. This image was from a cultivated plant on 6/11/16
