Madagascar periwinkle, Catharanthus roseus

This was indeed endemic to Madagascar. But it is very pretty, and grows well in dry and poor soils. It seems almost natural that it has now spread around the world in tropical and near subtropical areas. Almost natural? Sometimes it seems to me that spreading by human exploitation is just the next evolutionary adaptation. We sure have spread it! This is another species I remember from Saudi Arabia. It now grows in CA, FL, GA, HI, LA, MS, NC, OH, SC, and TX. I have no idea how Ohio snuck onto that list. Polk Co FL, 3/17/16
