Florida hedgenettle, Stachys floridana

These may be more disliked than rattlesnakes. Rattlesnakes come to mind because the tubers of this plant look very much like snake rattles. Each joint can produce a new plant. Until the mid twentieth century Florida hedgenettle stayed home in Florida. As we began shipping plants around the country, the range began to expand. They are now a serious weed in all kinds of agriculture in AL, AR, CA, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN, TX, and VA. But at least they have very attractive flowers. Polk Co FL, 3/22/16
