Rocky Mountain locust, Robinia neomexicana

Among perennial plants, trees, shrubs and woody vines were particularly likely to be used medicinally by Indians. If you're looking for a memorable plant that's easy to find, the bigger the better. This small tree was used by the Hopi as an emetic. Five other tribes made use of the wood and edible pods. The wood made particularly good bows. This is also true of the eastern species of Robinia, all of which found similar uses. Rocky Mountain locust grows in AZ, CA, CO, NM, NV, TX, UT, and WY. Lake Co CO, 6/20/13.
