toadshade, Trillium sessile

Toadshade is an other trillium. Other than the ones we're used to seeing, with a stem between the leaves and the flower. There are about 42 species of trillium in the United States. Twenty-two are like this one, without a pedicel. One other is ambivalent. This group often have mottled leaves, as shown here. I've always enjoyed the sessile group just because of their differentness. And who couldn't enjoy a flower called a toadshade. Toadshade grows in AL, AR, IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, MI(T), MO, NC, NY(E), OH, OK, PA, TN, VA, and WV. Lenawee Co MI, 4/29/11. Note that today will have three separate blog entries by the time I'm done.
