crested pricklypoppy, Argemone polyanthemos

I always look forward to seeing prickly poppies as I travel west. They usually start showing along the interstate in Nebraska. At that point the one eye on the road, one eye on the flowers policy may start to break down. So far, no accidents. But eyes on the road are good, particularly in Nebraska. The guy in Nebraska that came down the off ramp tried to reinforce that. You could see his passenger getting very excited. The last I saw of him, he had done a u-turn across the median. I doubt his passenger felt any better! I'll see more flowers in Colorado anyway. These poppies are 3 to 4 inches across, and grow in open areas in CO, IA, IL, IN, KS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OK, SD, TX, UT, WA, and WY. Sedgwick Co CO, 6/25/13.
