dwarf lake iris, Iris lacustris

We had a great Michigan Botany Club foray to the area around St. Ignace, Michigan. Michigan's state wildflower is in bloom. This little iris is not much more than two inches high. It only grows on the northern shores of Lakes Huron and Michigan, which puts it almost entirely in Michigan. At this time of year, a walk along a wild shore, or just behind it, will certainly bring you to some of these. Were I to make a wildflower pilgrimage to see one thing every year, this would be it. Dwarf lake iris grows in MI(T), WI(T), and ON(S). It is federally listed as threatened. Mackinac Co MI, 5/28/17.
