northern water-milfoil, Myriophyllum sibiricum

The day I waded in knee deep for pickerelweed, a little farther out were spikes of this milfoil. These were about waist deep. The milfoils may be a little more familiar than some water flowers. They grow in deep enough water to be encountered by boaters. Many a fisherman has untangled this from a line. These grow in AK, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, NH, NJ(E), NM, NV, NY, OH(T), OR, PA(E), RI, SD, UT, VT, WA, WI, WV, WY, through Canada, GL, in SPM, and in Siberia and China. Onsted State Game Area, Lenawee Co MI, 8/30/13.
