hairy honeysuckle, Lonicera hirsuta

We fret about invasive shrubs like honeysuckles. We occasionally enjoy cultivated honeysuckles, some with delightful aromas. It seems that our native ones too often get forgotten. So here's one of them. The first time I saw this one I was delighted. I had no idea we had one so colorful in the north. The flowers grow above a pair of leaves that unite around the stem, almost like a vase around the arrangement. Hairy honeysuckle grows in MA(E), MI, MN, NY, PA(E), VT, WI, ON,and QC.
