crownleaf evening-primrose, Oenothera coronopifolia

One must always stop to see the evening-primroses, this one along a scrubby roadside in Colorado. I wonder if my great grandfather saw some when he went west in the 1870s? It was said he went to Colorado for his health. One of the first things he did was hike up Pikes Peak. So I also wonder if going west for his health meant someone back in Ohio wanted to shoot him? These two inch flowers grow in open areas in AZ, CO, ID, KS, NE, NM, SD, UT, and WY. Lake Co CO, 6/20/13.
