swamp milkweed, Asclepias incarnata

I've had a succession of favorite images of swamp milkweed. This is the newest. Paul and I went out to this site looking for monkeyflowers. Instead I came back with this shot. That area of floodplain is much more open than it used to be. It now boasts the greatest show of these milkweeds that I have seen. The tradeoff is that some of the rare plants there seem to be in eclipse. I guess the shadowed background is the milkweed umbra. These milkweeds grow in all states except AK, AZ, CA, MS, OR, and WA, and in MB, NB, NS, ON, PE, QC, and on SPM. Lenawee Co MI, 7/30/17.
