wild leek, Allium tricoccum

As I watched the pup eat acorns yesterday, it occurred to me that I might be watching the beginnings of gastric intentional distress. That in turn reminded me of wild leeks. The last time I ate a steak smothered in wild leeks, I definitely had gastric intentional distress. After all of those that I have eaten, I have reached my limit. These are also called ramps. Some southern locations have ramp festivals. Of all of our wild foods, ramps are one of the more popular. So much so, that now there are conservation concerns in some areas. These flowers are about a quarter inch across in balls an inch or a little more across. They grow in woods in AL, CT, DE, GA, IA, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME(S), MI, MN, MO, NC, ND, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI(S), SD, TN(S), VA, VT, WI, WV, MB, NB, NS, ON, and QC(T). Lenawee Co MI, 7/21/11.
