marsh cinquefoil, Comarum palustre

Marsh cinquefoil has never looked that much like a cinquefoil. The small red petals and larger colored sepals are very unlike the yellow large petals one expects. So it was kind of nice to have that opinion validated by the chromosome crunchers, who placed it in its current separate genus. Marsh cinquefoil grows in damp places in AK, CA, CO, CT, IA, ID, IL, IN, MA, ME, MI, MN, MT, ND, NH, NJ(E), NY, OH, OR, PA, UT, VT, WA, WI, WY, through Canada, and on GL and SPM.
