Lindheimer's beeblossom, Oenothera lindheimeri

Lindheimer's has become a popular garden item. In cultivation, you often see flowers that are more or less pink. One can easily imagine the horticultural process. Original Lindheimer's gets a little pink as it fades. If you select plants that turn a little more pink than their kin, and keep selecting from pinker and pinker offspring - well, there you go. The flowers are about 3/4 inch across.
Lindheimer's beeblossom in the wild grows in LA and TX. Beal Gardens, MSU, 9/14/12.
