Yesterday I helped seventh graders from Tecumseh with their service day. The groups I was with cut invasive honeysuckle in a city park. They did a good and very energetic job. And they learned what an effective adaptation burs are. This is the season. Avens was among the ones encountered. Those little kinks in the adapted pistils work real well. Being seventh graders, many of them wore shorts, contrary to instructions. They were happy to not get so many burs. Let's hope they don't get poison ivy!
