Here's another wetland wildflower. It always likes to have its roots in the muck. But we hardly have to get our feet in to see this one. The flowers are up to nine inches across, easily seen from a distance. This one was in a roadside ditch where even I didn't have to get wet. This is our most northern species, growing in AL, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MO, MS, NC, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WI, WV, and ON(S). Monroe Co MI, 8/4/11.
