Virginia buttonweed, Diodia virginiana

Buttonweed had me down on the ground again in front of a restaurant. This time it was Wendy's. I had been watching these flowers that day, hoping to see some that weren't too beat up by lawn mowers. This was as good as it got. Fuzzy little buttonweeds are worth a close look. I wonder what the fuzz does for them? These flowers are about a quarter inch across. Virginia buttonweed grows in AL, AR, CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, IL, IN(T), KY, KS, LA, MD, MO, MS, NC, NJ(E), OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, TX, VA, and WV, and south to Nicaragua. It has been introduced to Japan and Taiwan. Bell Co KY, 7/15/15.
