Illinois Wildflowers says, "Looking at this plant, most people would never guess that it's a violet." It is indeed the champ of counterintuitive violets. The quarter inch long flowers grow along a single leafy stem a couple of feet high. It grows in woods, mostly in low areas, in AL, AR, CT(S), DE, FL(E), GA, IA(T), IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, MI(S), MO, MS, NC, NJ(E), NY, OH, OK, PA, SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, and ON. Lenawee Co MI, 5/20/13.
