common blue violet, Viola sororia

Common violet has to be one of the world's best known wildflowers. Everyone knows them and enjoys them. But even here, a good close look rewards us. We can almost imagine being a bee. Homing in on the flower, following the landing pattern, snuggling into the fuzzies, and enjoying the sweet stuff. Violets join us in welcoming spring. They certainly do in my lawn, where they abound. Common blue occurs in AL, AR, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI, WV, BC, LB, MN, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, and SK(T).
