dame's rocket, Hesperis matronalis

This is a phlox, right? No. Back when I was first getting into wildflowers, that was my assumption. But like one of my former bosses liked to say (thanks, Monroe), "Never assume!" At least do basic things like COUNT THE PETALS, Bob! This has four. Phlox has five (or if you want to be technical, one). This was the last of my shots at the Preserve that Sunday. I don't have any of dame's rocket images that I'm really proud of, probably because I don't like it. It is invasive, and we've spent a lot of time at the Preserve pulling it up. This Eurasian garden escape grows in every state and province except AL, AZ, FL, HI, LA, MS, OK, SC, TX, LB, and YK. Also introduced in South America, southeast Asia, north Africa, New Zealand, and probably elsewhere. Ives Fen Preserve, Lenawee Co MI, 5/13/12.
