moonflower, Ipomoea alba

Moonflower rounds out this bunch of astronomical common names. Not only is it large and white, but it blooms at night, fading after the sun appears. This is also rather obviously, if strangely, called white morning-glory. It's fragrance also fades with light. The moonflower name has been applied to more than a few flowers , and subsequently to many other items. It is the name of at least seven songs. Moonflower is grown in northern gardens, but resists blooming during our long summer days. White morning-glories grow on (it is a vine) FL, HI, KS, LA, and TX. Collier Co FL, 1/26/13.
