bog rosemary, Andromeda glaucophylla

The last two days featured plants that are protected in Ohio. Purple passionflower reaches the northern limit of its range in the Ohio River valley. Highbush cranberry barely reaches south into the state. Bog rosemary will be protected if it ever shows up again. It is no longer known in Ohio. Protecting species at the limits of their range is important. Even when we try, their ranges often continue to shrink as our activity degrades their habitat. Bog rosemary has occurred in AK, CT, ID, IL, IN(R), MA, ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OH(X), PA, RI, VT, WA, WI, WV, and through Canada into GL and on SPM. Mackinac Co MI, 5/27/17.
