Long Key locustberry, Byrsonima lucida
Long Key locustberry is in the family with crape myrtle. This small tree is not as floriferous as the myrtle, but has the wonderful trait of changing flower color, becoming red as they age. It is a threatened species of south Florida, growing in pinelands particularly where there is exposed limestone. It also grows on the Caribbean. Everglades National Park, Miami-Dade Co FL, 3/20/16.
