Bog goldenrod goes to extremes. It only grows in bogs and fens, where the pH is very acid or basic. At Ives Fen Preserve it only grows in the one spot where there is exposed clay. That is the most basic area, and is home to other lovers of extreme basic ground like insectivores. Although this paper wasp probably has little to fear. Don't usually think of them as pollinators, do we? Bog goldenrod grows in AL(X), CT, DE, GA, IA(E), IL, IN, MA, MD, ME, MI, MO, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, TN(S), VA, VT, WI, WV, LB, MB, NB, NF, NS, ON, PE, QC, and on SPM.
