Riddell's goldenrod, Solidago riddellii

Riddell's stands out with its combination of flat-top inflorescences and folded arching leaves. It makes it almost impossible for the photographer to improve on the composition nature provides. This stand at Ives Preserve is particularly good. I suppose that's partly for where it grows. Not too many years ago this spot was bare sand and rock in the bottom of the gravel pit. Now it shares this spot with other goldenrods, asters, milkweeds, sedges, grasses, and even orchids. All courtesy of Ma Nature. This is not one of the reseeeded areas. Riddell's goldenrod grows in damp openings in AR(T), IA, IL, IN, KS, MI, MN, MO, ND, OH, SD, WI, MB, and ON(S). Ives Fen Preserve, Lenawee Co MI, 9/7/15.
