Virginia cowslip, Mertensia virginica
Virginia cowslip is another native that has made its way into our gardens. This spring bloomer grows in patches with stems a couple of feet high. Like so many other woodland plants of that season, it comes and goes very quickly. The rare white flowered form also sometimes shows up in gardens. Virginia cowslip grows in AL, AR, DE, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI(E), MN, MO, MS, NC, NJ, NY(V), OH, PA, SC, TN, VA, VT, WI, WV, ON, and QC. Lenawee Co MI, 5/7/11.
