cutleaf evening-primrose, Oenothera laciniata

Evening-primroses get their name because many of them open at night.. But they persist into the next day. So morning is the best time to see these flowers. There is frequently dew to delight a photographer, if not the flower. Judging by the number of other species that have developed ways to keep their powder dry, the dew may momentarily inhibit pollination. Cut-leaf grows in AL, AR, CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NJ, NM, NY(E), OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV, WY, and ON.
