blue-eyed Mary, Collinsia verna
Blue-eyed Mary is high on the list of spring woodland delights. Patches of these are spectacular to see. But then they're gone. It's not just that they are a spring ephemeral, showing off early before fading. Blue-eyed Mary blooms, sets seed, and dies. And wherever you find them, you may have a hard time finding them again. One season there may be bunches, another season just a few. All depending on the whims of nature. Blue-eyed Mary grows in AR, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, MI, MO, NY(E), OH, OK, PA, TN(E), VA, WI, WV, and ON(O). Lenawee Co MI, 5/14/13.
