Many bogs have a ring of open water around them. That zone is a favorite habitat for wild callas. These jack-in-the-pulpit relatives are worth a close look, or an image. To do that, you may have to wade in waist deep. So fortunately, the white bract is about three inches tall, and can be more reasonably enjoyed from some distance. This particular one was on the bog, but that only meant that I needed to wade all the way across the open water to get to it. Wild calla grows in AK, CT, IA, IL(E), IN(E), MA, MD(E), ME, MI, MN, ND, NH, NJ, NY, OH(P), PA, RI, VT, WI, and in all of Canada. Washtenaw Co MI, 6/2/12.
