spotted hawkweed, Hieracium maculatum

Spotted hawkweed is an Eurasian. The only formally recorded location for it in North America is near St. Ignace, Michigan in Mackinac County, where it was first reiorded in 1935. I have photographed it in Wilderness State Park in Emmet County, which is just across the northeastern tip of Lake Michigan from the original site. This one is from a garden in Tecumseh, where I spotted it while taking the grand kids to school. This is a sometimes garden plant, available on the net, but not mentioned in the exhaustive manual of cultivated plants, Hortus Third. Shot on 5/27/14.
