Japanese spurge, Pachysandra terminalis

Yesterday's question was, "Does Pachysandra bloom?" So here is Japanese spurge in bloom. These spikes are maybe a little over an inch tall, on stems around six inches tall. The plant's creeping stems form a carpet in shady areas. They're a popular shade ground cover. We have a native species in the southeast. It has wider leaves, and the flower stalk comes up from the horizontal stems. This Pachsandra has been recorded wild in CT, DE, IL, IN, MA, MD, MI, MN, NC, NY, OH, PA, SC, VA, and ON. Lenawee Co MI, 5/4/11.
