common dandelion, Taraxacum officinale
This spring is dandy! As Winston and I walk around the neighborhood, we're seeing lots of dandelions. Most of the formerly carefully monocultured lawns now sport a healthy crop of dandelions. To someone who's lawn always has, it almost seems like the sincerest form of flattery. More likely, it is a dawning recognition that all those chemicals are unnecessary at best. Or maybe there's a new appreciation of dandelion wine. In any case, they sure are pretty. Common dandelions grow in every state and province, and on GL and SPM. Lenawee Co MI, 4/24/11.
