yellow jessamine, Gelsemium sempervirens

South Carolina's favorite is yellow jessamine. This is a twining woody vine which nicely adapts to garden use. It's somehow easy to imagine southern belles and their beaus of another era enjoying jessamine. Don't enjoy it too closely. The plant produces strychnine related chemicals and is quite toxic. It even poisons honeybees. Yellow jessamine grows in AL, AR, FL, GA, LA, MS, NC, SC, TN(S), TX, and VA. Morton Co GA, 1/23/13.
