silky lupine, Lupinus sericeus

Texas' state wildflowers are bluebonnets, which are lupines. Not having an image of a Texas lupine, we will make do with another of the many western species. This one was silhouetted against the sky by the Colorado Rockies. Lupines, including Lupinus texensis, are often used in gardens. They may be a little tricky to grow, particularly from seed, because of their microbial associations. Silky lupine grows in AZ, CO, ID, MT, NV, OR, SD, UT, WA, WY, AB, and BC. Summit Co CO, 6/18/13.
