buttonbush, Cephalanthus occidentalis

Buttonbush is a nice enough name, I suppose. But it seems like you could do better for these golf ball sized beauties. Though you wouldn't want to name anything for that evil game. Buttonwillow, California, clearly has a different take on it. They've built a whole culture around their old buttonwillow tree. Tree? These get maybe twice our height. Buttonwillow may be a barren place if the buttonbush is their best tree. It's now even on their state register of historical landmarks. Reminds me of riding across the Jordanian barrens, with a driver that kept saying we would stop at the tree for lunch. There was only one. Now that I've meandered my way through this, buttonbush meanders mostly across wetlands in AL, AR, AZ, CA, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX, VA, VT, WI, WV, NB, NS, ON, PE, QC, and south to Central America.
