water milkweed, Asclepias perennis
Water milkweed does actually grow in water, though it will also be found in damp, usually shaded, sites. It has learned well the advantages of its home. Its seeds do not have fuzz to help the wind blow them around. They get around by floating on the water. This is a small plant, often less than its maximum height of two feet. Like swamp milkweed, its flowers are relatively small. Water milkweed grows in AL, AR, FL, GA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MO, MS, SC, TN, and TX. Wakulla Co FL, 7/8/18.
