bearded iris, Iris germanica

Yesterday's catchfly/campion struck a chord with Anne. Her reaction struck a chord with me. To quote,"I sometimes think I must have been a plant in some previous life. And the friendly attitude I have towards campions as somehow being formed 'right', I may have been one. Or perhaps a persistent weedy friend." Anne, there are great wonders in persistent weedy friends. We're all built on them in so many ways. I went looking for a particularly beautiful weed for today and settled on an iris. Like friends, these sometimes get carried away by the vicissitudes of creation, leaving the friendly confines of our gardens for greater adventures. Bearded or German iris have been reported wild from CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC(hi, Anne), NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI, MB, NB, ON, and QC.
