tufted evening-primrose, Oenothera caespitosa

Is tufted the most beautiful of evening-primroses? It's a tough competition, but this is my candidate. They like to hang out on roadsides, just to show off for us. When you see these four-inch flowers whiz by, stopping and backing up is not a choice. It's more compelling than that. Of course, it only happens in the morning. At least we've got that. Some night bloomers fade before we rise and get out. Tufted grows in open, usually rocky ground in AZ, CA, CO, ID, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OR, SD, TX, UT, WA, WY, AB, MB, and SK. Summit Co CO, 6/17/13.
