purple milkvetch, Astragalus agrestis

Purple milkvetch is part of the Astragalus crowd. One of about 4200 species. Enough there to keep a photographer busy for a lifetime. And any unfortunate family and friends languishing beside the roads and trails, as this one did. The individual flowers are a little over a half inch long. Purple milkvetch grows in brushy areas and open forest in CA, CO, ID, IA, IL, MN, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OR, SD, UT, WA, WY, AB, BC, MB, NT, ON, QC, SK, YT, and eastern Asia. Summit Co CO, 6/19/13.
