glaucous white lettuce, Prenanthes racemosa

It's not white. And it's not lettuce. It is glaucous with all that gray fuzz. And it is fun to find these unusual looking flowers. Not generally considered rare, they are not frequent and tend to hang out in out-of-the-way places. Those almost metallic colored pistils, sticking out then curling back, give these their last touch of special. Glaucous white lettuce grows in fens and sometimes other damp spots in CO, IA, IL, IN, KY, ME(S), MI, MN, MO, MT, ND, NE, NJ(E), NY, OH, PA(X), SD, VT, WA, WI, WY, and across Canada except for NT, NU, PE, and YK.
