thymeleaf bluets, Houstonia serpyllifolia
This little gem was growing in a damp rocky meadow at Dolly Sods Wilderness. People in West Virginia regard Dolly as a little bit of northern tundra dropped on one of their mountains. There's some truth there, but it is also a wonderful place to see more southern flowers, like rhodies, azaleas, and this little gem. These plants grow in little tufts, sending up one small jewel per stem. They're at most a few inches tall. They are sometimes white like this, or often light blue. Thymeleaf bluets grow in GA, KY(E), MD, NC, PA(X), SC, TN, VA, and WV. Pendleton Co WV, 7/16/18.
