It's always fun to see golden asters, partly because it's so tricky to know what you're looking at. These are variable plants. Over the years they've been split into numerous species, and combined in ways other than this current version. Heterotheca villosa seems to be leading the polls at the moment, at least for this particular individual. Of course, I was the only one polled. Hairy goldenaster in one form or another grows in AZ, CA, CA, IA, ID, IL, IN(T), KS, MI, MN, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, OK, OR, SD, TX, UT, WA, WI, WY, AB, BC, MB, ON, SK, and Mexico.
