grizzlybear pricklypear, Opuntia erinacea
I keep mentioning plants that have a few species in the East, and many more as one goes west. Probably none of them explode quite like the cacti. Here in Michigan we have two species ( that's right, we have native cacti in Michigan!). In the west there seems to be no limit. My first sight of this color of grizzlybear was at Black Canyon. Around the flower you can see the reasons one might call this grizzlybear. This species grows in AZ(S), CA, CO, NM, NV(P), and UT. Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, Montrose Co CO, 6/20/16.
